Washington Mardi Gras is a special event hosted by SLEC and held annually in the country's capitol, where prominent business and political figures from Louisiana bring the spirit of Mardi Gras to D.C. Every year, the event has a theme, and in 2018, for the 70th Annual Washington Mardi Gras and it's always-anticipated Economic Luncheon had a special theme of "One Love for Innovation". Our team was tasked to create an event identity that would harbor the pizzazz of Mardi Gras, while also highlighting the idea of Louisiana-brand Innovation.

The idea came forward to create lanyards out of Mardi Gras beads, and to create a uniquely shaped lanyard (which doubled as an invitation) that called back to 1800s-1900s Mardi Gras Ball invitations. We envisioned an ornate illustration of Louisiana's most well known industries and symbols. I kept the illustration style monoline and clean in order to maintain a corporate-friendly look, allowing the fun and funk of Mardi Gras to be displayed within the busy nature of the illustrations, and a custom, hand-drawn typeface inspired by jazz music. The event materials were a hit!
